It is the second interruption in less than a month of the social network, after the blackout it suffered on March 19.
Facebook Inc says a configuration change Thursday afternoon disrupted service for some of its customers.
In a statement, the company ensures that it quickly investigated the blackout and restored the service, which also affected Instagram and WhatsApp.
Thousands of users reported connectivity problems for more than an hour around 6pm ET.
The outage is the second in less than a month for the social media giant; a blackout on March 19 took their sites offline for several hours. Facebook returned an error message saying: “sorry, something went wrong”
According to outage tracking portal Downdetector.com, more than 154,100 outage reports were reported on Facebook, 80,200 on Instagram, and 1,300 on WhatsApp.
